SAMPLE Hunger Letter
OCTOBER 2019 Dear Community Member, Please join in this Annual BREAD FOR THE WORLD Lenten Offering of Letters campaign initiated by our community in support of justice for the hungry and needy found daily in our global village. This is social action: getting to the root cause of the problem of hunger. Please handwrite your three letters using the form on the other side, selecting one sentence from each of the three suggested groups so that you have three [and three only] selected sentences that form each letter. Send your three [3] letters in individual envelopes: One to each senator and one to your representative. Addresses are as follows: Sen. ___________________ U.S. Senate Washington, DC 20510 Rep. ___________________ U. S. House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515 And thanks so much for joining your care and concern to this marvelous effort. Your personal letters to Congress are always effective, and when handwritten even more so. One more thing: Pray over your three letters before mailing. Ask that the hearts and minds of Congress fulfill the sacred and God-given trust to care for the most vulnerable in our midst, and to advance the goal of ending hunger in our nation and around the world. Amen to that! Russ Banner Representing Mary Mother of Jesus Inclusive Catholic Community and Pax Christi USA?Manasota Chapter
SAMPLE Hunger Letter
TO: __________________________________________________________________ (Name of your Senator or Representative) __________________________________________________________________ (Address in Washington, DC) __________________________________________________________________ Dear __________, In your own handwriting, select one sentence each from each of the three suggested groups so that you have three sentences that form your letter. GROUP ONE [select one only] 1. Because of so many of our global community remain hungry each day, I am asking you to continue to support a global initiative which will accelerate progress on nutrition: the global Nutrition Resolution [S.Res.260 a companion of the earlier introduced House resolution [H.Res.189]. 2. I am writing to you on the issue of worldwide hunger and asking that you seek to pass legislation that establishes a new, scaled-up approach to global nutrition: the global Nutrition Resolution [S.Res.260 a companion of the earlier introduced House resolution [H.Res.189]. 3. At a time of sharp political division, one area of concern that should not escape your attention is that of global hunger?a common cause to which millions stand to gain. Follow the example of the 28+ senators from both sides of the aisle who have agreed to cosponsor the global Nutrition Resolution [S.Res.260 a companion of the earlier introduced House resolution [H.Res.189]. GROUP TWO [select one only] 1. Today, nearly 821 million people in the world, 11 percent of the world?s population, remain hungry. Increased funding will provide lifesaving nutrition to mothers and children, who are the most vulnerable. 2. One in 4 of the world?s children are affected by stunting, resulting in irreversible life consequences and as people of faith, we are called to care for one another and to speak out for those in need. 3. Almost half of all child deaths worldwide are linked to malnutrition, and is why I am urging you. GROUP THREE [select one only] 1. Congress should pass legislation to establish a new, scaled-up approach in global nutrition, 2. Please seek passage of a bill or resolution that will strengthen our national commitment to global child nutrition, an approach that would strengthen our national commitment to globally end hunger. 3. I am urging you to take the necessary steps that will strengthen our national commitment, our investment in efforts to advance global nutrition. You attention was most appreciated. ________________________________________________________ (Sign your name) _________________________________________________________ (Street address) _________________________________________________________
